Tipton-Haynes State Historic Site is proud to keep alive the namesake of the Tiptons, Haynes, Simerly, and related families. The preservation of the history of these families is an important goal of Tipton-Haynes. This goal can be achieved with the help of the descendants of these historic families. Any information with reliable sources (i.e., documented primary and secondary sources) is greatly appreciated. Please contact us if you have any information that you are willing to share.

  • Not only does Tipton-Haynes wish to keep alive your ancestors, but we would like to keep alive your own lineage for your future descendants. Download our Descendant Form and email it to Tipton-Haynes. Descendant forms are archived in the Mary Hardin McCown Archives for future generations to research.

  • Descendants of early settlers of present-day Northeast Tennessee from 1769 to 1788 are eligible to apply for a First Families of Franklin certificate.

    To qualify for the First Families of Franklin certificate, the applicant must directly descend from an ancestor who lived in the counties that made up what is now Tennessee from 1769 to 1788. Present day counties considered to be part of the State of Franklin include Sullivan, Washington, Greene, Unicoi, Carter, Johnson, Hawkins, Sevier, Blount, Knox, and Hamblen Counties. Required is proven descent from the ancestor (male or female) by an official record or records for each generation, including proof for the applicant.
