22 Dec. 1810 – Lawson Gifford, father of Sarah Lavinia, born.

26 July 1818 – Mary Taylor Haynes, mother of Sarah Lavinia, daughter of David and Rhoda Haynes, and younger sister of Landon C. Haynes, born.

1835 – Lawson Gifford became publisher of the Tennessee Sentinel. 

c. 1838 – Lawson Gifford and Mary Taylor Haynes marry.

1841 – Landon C. Haynes became editor of the Tennessee Sentinel, working with Lawson Gifford until he sold the Tennessee Sentinel in 1846.

15 Oct. 1843 – Brother, John F. Gifford, is born. Died 8 Oct. 1871 and was buried in the Tipton-Haynes cemetery.

1847 – Sarah Lavinia Gifford born. 

28 Jan. 1849 – Brother, David H. Gifford, is born. Died 4 Aug. 1926 and was buried in the Tipton-Haynes cemetery.

20 Sept. 1849 – Samuel W. Simerly Sr., husband of Sarah Lavinia, born.

20 Oct. 1849 – Sister, Emmaline Gifford, is born.

1851 – Brother, Joseph B. Gifford is born and dies as an infant.

15 May 1853 – Sister, Rhoda H. Gifford, is born. Died 5 Aug. 1922 and was buried in the Tipton-Haynes cemetery.

14 April 1854 – Sister, Mary Gifford, is born. Died 29 Dec. 1943 and was buried in the Tipton-Haynes cemetery.

1857 – Sister, Annette Gifford, is born. Died 1914 and was buried in the Tipton-Haynes cemetery.

27 April 1859 – Brother, Matthew L. Gifford, is born. Died 21 April 1940 and was buried in the Tipton-Haynes cemetery.

1860 – Lawson Gifford published The Federal Instructor, or, Youth’s Assistant, which was written by Abijah Fowler and Josiah Fowler.

June 1863 – In Jonesborough, Lawson Gifford joins a Confederate home-guard under Captain J. B. McLin.

c. 1867 – Sarah Lavinia Gifford and Samuel W. Simerly Sr. marry.
